The total solar eclipse on July 22 3009 passes just south of Japan. Eclipses have long been associated with important and significant developments by astrologers, and correlate with the release of stored up tension.
The horoscopes for Japan shown on the left depict the natal horoscope on the left and the progressed natal horoscope on the right hand side. They are based upon the Japanese post-war constitution. Shown in the diagram on this page are 2 horoscopes: the natal horoscope which is based upon when this new constitution took effect, and the progressed horoscope. In case you are new to astrology the progressed horoscope reveals the subtle evolution of the personality (some say the subtle evolution of the soul).
1. In regard to the 3 eclipses during July-August 2009 the first eclipse strikes the progressed Midheaven at 15 degrees of Capricorn. The Midheaven in the horoscope of a country represents the government. In a personal horoscope it represents your reputation and career ‘calling’. In Japan’s progressed horoscope the eclipse conjoins the Moon. The Moon represents the people. The people ‘come to power’ and make a momentous decision about who will govern them. Eclipses act like a thunderbolt and electrify the situation.
2. The total solar eclipse, which is the longest eclipse this century, conjoins the descendant (2A) of the natal horoscope for when the post-war constitution was drawn up. The descendant represents the enemy of the people. The people feel opposed.
(2B): The total solar eclipse squares the progressed Ascendant: the situation is tense and the people struggle to adjust. The Ascendant also represents the people and the country itself. Eclipses represent the release of tension which has built up over time. Something significant is quickly developing.
(2C)): The eclipse is conjoins Mars by antiscia conjunction. Antiscia conjunctions represent the involvement of hidden forces or activities – the shadow side of Japanese politics – there is a lot happening behind the scenes.
(2D): The total solar eclipse conjoins progressed Mercury – the media’s involvement is critical. The eclipse at this position suggests sudden revelations by the media.
3. The August 6 2009 lunar eclipse squares the natal Midheaven and also conjoins the antiscia of this Midheaven (3A). The Midheaven represents the government. The government is ‘eclipsed’ and attempts to rescue itself by devious or secret means.
(3B): The August 6 2009 lunar eclipse also squares the progressed Jupiter. Jupiter represents help and assistance in a general sense and in this horoscope is ruler of the 11th house which represents parliament. The parliament is ‘eclipsed’.
4. Transiting Jupiter and Neptune square natal Jupiter (4A). Natal Jupiter, as mentioned above, represents parliament. The transit by these 2 planets represents ‘a dream come true’. The escape – the attainment of a vision.
Together these eclipses and the transits from Jupiter and Neptune represents a ‘seismic shift’ in Japanese politics (hopefully not in a literal sense, although eclipses are often associated with earthquakes). As the shadow of the longest solar eclipse this century passes just south of Japan we can expect important developments to emerge in the land of the rising Sun.
